The Aviara Mission

Aviara Center

Aviara Centers offer more than just orthodontic treatment. Our doctors are trained in pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, facial development, myofunctional therapy and healthy airway support, among other specialties. If you are about to visit our office for the first time, here is what you can expect.

You will be greeted warmly by one of our caring team members. If you have not already registered and completed a new patient form, you will be asked to fill out the registration form and to provide information about your dental and medical plans if available. Our patient questionnaire and health history is longer than what you may expect at traditional dental or orthodontic offices, but carefully answering the questions will help us understand you or your child more thoroughly so we can design an optimal treatment plan that is customized for your or you or your child’s needs.

If you are coming in for an initial Consultation, our staff will give you an overview of our practice philosophy, team and services. If you reserved time with one of our doctors, he or she will review your health history and patiently listen to your questions and concerns regarding your or your child’s oral health and facial development. We recommend that you bring notes that describe the areas of concern, list of medications, symptoms or treatment history, and any applicable photos or x-rays.

If you are coming in for a Comprehensive Exam & Workup, one of our doctors will perform a thorough exam of your child’s teeth, jaws, and supporting structures. Airway and TMJ health assessment will be performed utilizing advanced technology such as a Pharyngometer to assess the collapsibility of your airway, Rhinometer to screen for any nasal obstruction and JVA (Joint Vibration Analysis) to determine if there are signs of TMJ issues. A digital 3D Cone Beam CT will be taken to analyze the craniofacial structure, TMJ and airway and digital photographs will be taken to analyze any facial or postural imbalances. If needed, intraoral digital radiographs will be taken to determine the health of the teeth and its surrounding structures. You will also go home with a high resolution pulse oximetry sleep screening device so our doctors can understand if the craniofacial structural imbalances are affecting you or your child’s airway & sleep.

If you or your child has significant craniofacial imbalances, facial and jaw underdevelopment, bite issues, parafunction and associated health concerns, our doctors will recommend an outside Craniofacial/Ortho/TMJ/Airway Analysis provided by a radiologist and a craniofacial expert. Our doctors will utilize the information on this report to make a final assessment and treatment recommendations.
